SNAKES
We are very lucky to have two snake and reptile experts, who we call on for advice. One of them is called on by defra when illegal shipments of snakes come into the country. He has had some rare specimens indeed.
If we carry snakes worth thousands of pounds, we want to make sure that we provide the best transport environment that we can.!. Anything we have not couriered before, we get the best possible advice on how best to transport them.
We have couriered snakes so small they can wrap around your finger, like a ring, up to 16ft ones. Ideally snakes from 4ft -10ft should be in a snake bag, secured with a zip tie and inside a pillow case or similar. Please make sure the bag is the right size for the snake. Snakes over 10ft, need to be in a secure plastic container, containing bedding, which we can then ratchet strap around for additional security and safety.
We carry heated blankets, that in colder weather come into good use. We find a slightly cooler temperature makes them sleepy and we don't get snake bags moving around the van, which in the rear view mirror can look quite spooky!
For the smaller snake, correct packaging is a must. In a plastic snake or reptile container, inside a polybox to maintain temperature and with either shredded or scrunched newspaper to retain heat as well as to provide a noise dampener and absorb bounce.
We always check at delivery end, to make sure everything is ok and the recipient signs to say everything is satisfactory.
Snake Prices are per box, 2nd boxes are half price. We class a box being that which one person can carry on their own.
Snakes under 4ft are £65 inclusive of vat
Snakes 4ft - 10ft are £100 inclusive of vat
Snakes over 10ft are £150 inclusive of vat
Reptiles are £50 - £100 inclusive of vat, depending on species and size.
Reptile prices are per box, with any other boxes travelling at the same time, to the same address, at half price. We charge per box, not per item, so it does not matter how many are in one box, as long as they fit comfortably.
Aquariums and Viv's are charged at £20 inclusive of vat, per foot, on the longest length. Smaller equipment plus flora & fauna is carried free of charge, if it can fit inside the tank or vivarium. Food under 5kg is also carried free of charge if collected and delivered at the same time.
Shop prices are negotiated on the amount of boxes they send out per month. This will be reviewed if and when neccessary, i.e fuel increases.
The prices above are for mainland UK, up as far as Glenrothes. We have a reputable shop there able to take boxes until the customer can collect them from 10am on the Friday. Deliveries further into Scotland will be charged at 60p per mile from Glenrothes, rounded up to the nearest mile. (which can be checked by Google maps)
Deliveries across to Wales will have in addition the crossing fee, (which at present is £10.90) if the shortest route takes us across the bridge. If the customer wishes to meet us at Magor Services just over the bridge, we will waive the crossing fee.
If we deliver to Wales via Gloucester, say on a return journey, the customer will not be charged for the crossing fee.

GECKO'S
We have successfully transported many different species of Gecko's, from babies to fully grown adults. They should be packaged correctly in a plastic Gecko container and placed inside a polybox surrounded by scrunched up, or shredded newspaper.
Most people don't need heat packs as our van has no bulkhead and the warm air circulates. Polyboxes absorb heat quite well and the temperature is maintained. For babies, we keep them at the front where it is warmer still. In colder weather, it's your choice as to whether to add a heatpack. Most people who use us dont. We put half the box on a heated blanket which gives them a warm corner but overheating is worse for gecko's, so unless the weather is unusually cold, we find that just being at the front of the van is enough.
Again, we charge per box so you can put as many inside as you like as long as they fit comfortably.
We do check at delivery end to make sure everything is ok and the recipient signs to say everything is satisfactory.

LIZARDS
Larger reptiles like Uromastyx and Monitors also need to be packaged correctly. We had a monitor lizard escape from a polybox and create havoc in the van, when he dug his way out. This one was only 3 and a half ft but still managed to whip the assistant around the neck, drawing blood, when we had to catch him to re- box him correctly. We found the bag he should have been placed in, on the bottom of the polybox for him to lay on!
AND FINALLY........
We take every job on, as if we were collecting something for ourselves. Our aim was always to take the place of the customer in doing the collecting and delivering to your home. The boxes, or bags, go onto the van and they are not touched again, unless we need to administer water or spray, until they are taken out for delivery.
Any questions regarding reptiles, please don't hesitate to ask.
